As of last week, I have realised the utter worthlessness of my DeBono's hats coments. We were all supposed to read out one of our comments when I realised that all of mine were... to say the least, horrible!
I must work harder
--- Boxer, Animal Farm
So... Let's start:
hehe, that's quite a large hat.
I have successfully created a website design on Inspiration. I will post it both here and on my isdweblog as a sitemap.
Right now, I am busy with the task of actually creating my webpages.
The planning and creation reports are due soon after the Eid break which starts on the 7th of November.
Must get lots of work done by then.
Sick of reflecting
Rest of the hats later.

First of all, INVESTIGATION IS OVER!!!
CELEBRATE! REJOICE! The boring part is gone!!!
hehe... we're getting the Inspiration lady on our computers to say funny stuff about each other...
It has been FAR too long since I did any proper reflection stuff.
Here goes:
(btw, am planning to add colour and images more often, specially for the deBono reflections)

We began our Planning last week. This is what we have to do (forthe design planning and organising section): (of which I have so far done nothing)
1. Make my super duper secret and ultra cool table of contents
2. Put supporting info and artefacts into the blog
3. Make a sitemap on Inspiration (which I am promising myself will not be boring, despite the extreme boring-ness of Inspiration)
I also have to do the ENTIRE planning report during the eid break and also start my creation. AHH!!! And this was supposed to be good once Investigation was over!!!
I have finally finished INVESTIGATION!!!
AHHHH!!! No tim to finish. Will do rest later!

Task 2: Framework and Focus
WebQuest 4:
(based on our teacher's portfolio)
Describe briefly the metaphor used for this digital portfolio
The metaphor used is that of a human body divided into 4 parts:
The head - the thinking section, under which are all the artefact reflections, educational philosophy and other such 'thinking' documents
The torso - the being section, devoted to her personal life, her family, hobbies and interests
The hands - the 'reaching out' section, which is about collaboration with others and personal contributions to the field of education
The legs - the 'making tracks' section, is about her journey, her achievements and past experiences and her footprints in the sands of ... er... education.
How effective is the metaphor? Did you understand it immediately?
I think the metaphor is extremely clever, but very weak as a portfolio metaphor. The different section headings were clearly set out and were appropriate to the content. But it would have been more interesting if the 'body' metaphor had been developed more. I didnt even know that the human body was being used as a metaphor until I visited the 'About this Portfoli' page.
I suggest using pictures of the various body parts as icons for the different sections, rather than having a head for the thinking section and a landscape for the making tracks section (individually appropriate, but no conection between the two). Perhaps there could be a full-body silhouette on the title page, with each body section hyperlinked to the corrsponding portfolio section.
If you were to choose a metaphor as the framework for your portfolio what could it be? Read the information found on this website to help you with ideas.
After reading the recommended website, liked the follwing ideas:
toothbrush, but not enough room to develop the idea
butler, but implies dependency on digifolio
laboratory, but way too scientific
I had previously had the idea of having my workstation as my metaphor. I have developed this idea somewhat, and hope to use it for my isdweblog.

Task 2: Framework and focus
WebQuest 3:
(based on Roberta's Personal Portfolio)
What categories does this portfolio cover?
Briefly comment on the relevance of these
I want to answer these 2 questions together.
Roberta uses the following categories:
Personal Background - her previous schools, her home community, etc.
Resume/Work Experiences/Career Goals - couldn't have put it better myself!
Academic Demontstration - major projects in the 4 years (each year is a sub-category) she studied at MEHS.
Extracurricular - Trips, community groups, etc.
Other links - photos
Each of the categories used by Roberta was completely relevant to her personal portfolio (with the possible exception of the page with pictures of babies). As I have stated earlier in this process journal, MEHS students do not have a very impressive layout for their portfolios. Roberta's was the most detailed one I have found so far, and her portfolio is divided into subcategories that clearly show her accomplishments as a learner. All the categories are ones I would consider including in my own digifolio.
If you were to choose categories as a framework, what headings would you use?
I would use these categories:
MYP Subject Areas (Language A {English} and A2 {for Bangla}, Language B, Humanities, Maths, Science, Technology, Arts and PE)
I would also include pages for achievemnts (certificates, awards...), CS work, ECA, my Personal Statement and a photo album

WebQuest 2:
(based on this page)
What question do you think the student has been challenged with to use as a framework for this protfolio?
Although Natalie Krupka has not mentioned a question anywhere, we can guess from the context, her message. Ms. Krupka is the technology coordinator at the Holy Cross School. Her protfolio answers the question, "What are the different roles I have had to play to succeed in my career?"
What headings have been used to provide evidence?
She has colour coded her potflio in 5 colours, representing the following sections: "About Me", "Teacher of Students", "Teacher of Teachers" and "Leader". These are the headings under which she has categorised the various elements of her job. Under each of the colour sections, she has further sub categories, e.g. "Resume" would fall under "About Me".
How effective is her portfolio layout and content in answering that question?
Natalie Krupka has used a unique and effective layout for her portfolio. Each of the colour sections make up puzzled pieces that form a rectangle around the centrepiece titled "Natalie Krupka". It shows herself in the center of her many resposiblities, all of which are directky connected to her, as well as with each other, as suggested by the jigsaw theme.
Think of a guiding question that you could use for your portfolio.
Possible guiding questions for my portfolio are:
"How have I developed as a learner since my enrolment in the MYP Programme?"
"How much have I improved myself as a student over the past academic year?"
"What qualities do I possess that make me a reponsible young citizen of the world?"
"How much has my education contributed to my development as a person?"

Red Hat stuff (basically personal comments that don't fit under any other category):
MYP program (refer to previous posting stands for Middle Years Programme program - doesn't make much sense to me either.
I strongly feel that students are taking advantage of the easy access to their peers' homework online. I am very glad that Mrs. Lindsay shall make us submit our work onto turnitin.
Blue Hat:
I put a lot of thought into WebQuest 1. I think that thinking one one subject for a longer period of time allows us to make connections and remember relevant information, thus improving the quality of our work.
I already put in White Hat stuff on the last posting (we have to cover a minimum of 3 hats per posting - now there's a phrase you don't hear every day!)

Task: Portfolio Framework and Focus:
WebQuest 1:
What headings could be used within the standards framework for a digital portfolio to be created showing evidence of these NETS-S standards?
A student could set goals, and use samples of work that display achievements towards meeting those goals.
For example, a student may have headings such as "Effective IT integration", "Good Show of Process" and "Clear Communication".
An MYP student may want to use work that shows use of the different Approaches to Learning. Or, s/he could choose work that show one of the three holistic themes of the MYP: Knowledge (covering Tests, Quizzes and grades in general), Communication (covering topics such as the utilisation of the writing process, RIFWC, the creative/deign cycle, etc. or the use of ICT in a major project) and InterCultural Awareness (covering research assignments that look into other cultures such as One World write-ups for Science, most Humanities units, looking into the cultures of various countries - such as Francophone countries for French assignemnts (ISD's MYP Language B), CS inititatives that look into the effects of culture and social constraints on the community).
I believe I have also answered the rest of the questions in this answer. The questions were:
Describe the sort of material a student could present to meet those standards.
What other comments can you make?
What standards or areas found in the MYP program would you consider using for a portfolio framework?

Okay, so here's a list of what I have left to do:
1. Portfolio Framework Task: WebQuests 1,2,3 & 4.
2. Mulitmedia Task: HUUUGE!
3. Investigation Report: Due October 11th, at the start of Tuesday's lesson
4. Personal Statement: Should have been done by now, but technically not required for the Investigation report.
Eventually...
5. Theme: Fully forming my 'secret' supertheme for my isdweblog, which I have not made any changes to recently.
One interesting things I did on my blogspot blog (this one) was republishing it. I added the sub-header 'My Technology Process Journal. Technically', but the blog said I had to republish in order to successfully make that change. I didn't republish at first, as I was afraid that would erase all my postings. I asked Mrs. Lindsay about that today in class, and she assured me that my postings wouldn't get deleted. So I tried republishing (although I opted to "Republish Index Only" - whatever that means), and voila! My sub-header had appeared.
We're supposed to be doing Journal entries using de Bono's six thinking hats to qualify as Blogger of the Week. Er... I guess I've covered White Hat stuff. Onto some other hats...
Yellow Hat: My work is picking up pace. I should catch up with my work before any real deadlines.
Black Hat: SO MUCH WORK LEFT! I need to focus more and get more work done.
Red Hat: Feeling glad about having my blog posting on display on the projector for the class to see - yay! Although feeling upset in an inadequate sort of way - Seyafinaz had injured her leg (sprain? muscle pull???) and Mrs. Lindsay asked if there were any TeenAiders. I stepped up, but managed to do virtually nothing (other than offer a glass of water) as I had ZERO First Aid Training. The first thing I did after returning to my laptop was send Ms. Irene an e-mail, recommending First Aid Training for TeenAiders.
Blue Hat: I feel that when I think about my work, I am thinking effectively. But I am not spending enough time thinking. I need to think more about getting the work done, and less about long-term possibilities.
Green Hat: Today, while Mrs. Lindsay was explaining Multimedia Stuff, I got some new ideas about including sound and video clips in my blog. But, I will not spend too much time thinking about it (^^^Blue Hat^^^)...... and the idea about First Aid Training for TeenAiders.

Did you notice how I added hyperlinks into the text with the last blog?
I did this
Instead of this: http://shababsayshello.blogpot.com
I just learnt how to do that from Mrs. Lindsay on Wednesday in class.
Just a comment about the MEHS webspaces: They ALL had the same old boring format!!!
Now to get on with my personal statement..... zzz.... z.... snore!!!

Task: Portfolios Defined (Contd.) (FINALLY)
I decided to take a look at Aaron Nicoli's Homepage. I am going to evaluate it the way we evaluate work for the Arts:
What were the positive sides?
The thing about Aaron's page that caught my attention was his home page, which had what we would call his personal statement. First, he defines himself as a person - his personality and characteristics. Then he talks about where he has come from, his hobbies and activities, what he does out and about the community and his future goals, both in terms of university and career, justifying his wishes. All in all, it gives us a good impression of him as a person.
Then, Aaron has a 3 pages, each containing pictures of his family, his friends and wrestling. The fact that Aaron has chosen to have a separate page of photos of his wrestling tournaments shows us how important the sport is to him.
This is followed by 4 pages on his academic subjects, each giving an overview of the course he took and then describing one sample of work which is included in or linked to the webpage.
This style of describing the whole course or topic was something I had also seen in Smruti's weblog, although her topic overviews were about a sentence long. It is different from the entry tags we are used to, as it combines an entry tag with the part of our Overview of the Year where we describe each subject - to give a sort of overview of the subject.
What could be improved?
It is obvious that Aaron did not give his web-space a lot of time. His entries are relevant for only 1 term. His format was the same as all the other students of the school, so that could be changed to make it more interesting. Some of his work samples did not load properly.
What would I do differently had I been given the project?
I would arrange my photos in an interesting way, rather than have them all in one line.
I would have less pictures of wrestling :D . There were way too many pictures - as if Aaron had included every single picture of himself wrestling he could lay his hands on. Some were lurry, some were taken at odd angles (ahem) and some were pictures of the same match, 3 or 4 seconds apart - that was VERY boring. Unless one knows the basics of wrestling, the captions underneath the pictures do not make much sense as they use wrestling jargon.
Aside from that, maybe I'd be a little more descriptive when talking about each project.
The biggest drawback of Aaron's webspace was that it was only relevant for 1 term.

OMG!!! I just checked out Vanille's blog and isdweblog. For one thing, WHY ARE SOME PPL SO GOOD AT WEB PAGE AUTHORING??? It makes the rest of us look like incapable doofus... es.
Her process journal was really good as it showed exactly what she did, and when she did it. It showed problems she faced and how she triedto solve them and her excitement when her blog finally worked.
Bah humbug! What about the rest of us whose blogs dont work?
waitaminnit... er... what were those hatty thingies? oh yeah! de Bono's thinking hats!
er.... ok
white hat: still behind schedule. looked at vanille's blog.
yellow hat: i am finally doing something about my behind schedule-ness
black hat: i am SOOOO bad at blogging
(just had a quick look at http://www.edwdebono.com/ coz I couldn't remember what the other hats were for)
green hat: the cool theme i thought of for my isdweblog. I came up with some new ideas for that *secret* theme after taking a look at the MEHS school digifolios.
red hat: feeling very INADEQUATE as a blogger!!!
blue hat: i need to think about my skill as a web page author or as a blogger. i think i am strong at creating protfolios, just not digifolios.
hope to complete Portfolios Defined tonight.
